a p o t a x i s : desideratum

well, time has come. 13 issues of desiderata have now been done, and it is time to put the old gorilla to sleep. frankly, i have found that the issue format just doesn't really make the best use of the possibilities of online publishing. issue #1 came out in spring of 1999, before the turn of the century, and trying to keep up any kind of a regular schedule long ago became a grind.

the main idea of doing this blessed project was to try to ventilate some of my opinions without driving my in the flesh friends & acquaintances out of earshot. at least here, you could take it or leave it, and i am not present to take offence. maybe give offence, but that is entirely a different skin of a different beast.

anyways, trying to construct issues is no fun for me, and not the best use of the variability of this form. so, i decided quite awhile ago that following issue #13, this zine would cease "publishing" issues, and would be reinvented to take advantage of the possibility of ongoing updates.

so now is a good time to ring in with your ideas, contributions, and whatever while i build the new desideratum (name subject to change without notice) website, which will be have links both obvious & indicated and not, for future perusal.

one primary objective is to be able to toss reviews up as they are written, instead of the increasingly accumulating backlog that causes me to have to have to play catch-up every few weeks. i am also going to try to open the reviews up to stuff that i find myself thinking about a lot, whether it was recently released, or just recently encountered by me. another thing is that i will not guarantee reviews of stuff that is sent in. i have received some great stuff, but also, i get a lot of stuff that i just find myself wading thru. i do appreciate your submitting items for review, but until further notice i am going to write about what i find myself caring about. so, here is the disclaimer: if you send me something (excepting those things i contact you and ask for), i will give it a listen, but if it doesnt make me think of something to write, i am not going to wring out descriptive words ad infinitum.

i think that the showtrials reviews of live shows have been done pretty much like what the whole thing will be like. i write within a couple of days of the event, post it, and thar she blows. i think the effect will be more immediate, and tho i am sure it will need some fine tuning along the way, it has to be fun for me or i just wont. the new thing wont be hard to find, the same desiderata link will lead to the index of posts, and there is always the liklihood that you will find it in google or dogpile just like you did before.

if not, just email me for directions.
