this is all getting kinda scary to me... this jingoistic hatred/patriotism is all mixed up and not good... it is a refuge for misplaced hatred all too often... this will be worse than desert storm...and that is bad... nations are irrelevant... i am having a hard time hearing reports that this was unexpected... unprovoked...that is about people... not about this icon of the usa... the people are fine... for the most part... but the moment you anthropomorphize the "country" it gets sick real quick... there has been a consistent pattern of actions by our country that have caused many people in other parts to hate the usa... to pretend that this attack is an "attack on freedom" is to propagandize the facts... it was an attack on the country that has its emblems on weapons sold all over the world... it was an attack on a country that practices immoral and exploitative business practices all over the world... it was an attack on a country that refuses to work within international law... it was an attack on a country that practices selective morality... on a country that seems to not care what harm is done by many of our actions... that is not being talked about... on tv... why would the terrorists be so angry with the usa? because we have troops in saudi arabia... because we bankroll israel's tactics in the occupied territories... including assassination... to much of the world... the usa does not represent freedom... it represents making money at any cost... and that... is how we got attacked... i am not saying it was right... but to not deal with the root issues... is to go into this with blinders on... when ww2 ended, we knew that if we crippled and punished the axis powers... the way they did at the end of ww1... ww3 would be not long coming... so we supported italy, japan & germany, our erstwhile enemies... in many ways... and those countries are now not our enemies... find and prosecute the perpetrators of this... but also address the problems involved thru of our support of israel... and deal with the underlying facts of our military presence in saudi arabia... the saudi government is not democratic... and for many, neither is israel... kuwait is not... we support governments that will allow money to be made... by corporations that can no longer be characterized as really being american... sorry to rant... but i am afraid... for our kids... and that we are not looking at the full picture... it frightens me... it is like when kid say "billy hit me"... without pointing out that they nailed him with a rock first... not a good analogy... but that sense of "how can people believe the truth is so simplistic?"... usa= good guys in white hats... terrorists=evil bad people... it is cartoon-like... in different ways... good thing is... blinders can be removed... or at least the field of vision can be widened... for our own sake... and our kids sake... do we want to get into a long-term financial/moral vs. religious/moral war? or do we want to eradicate any chance that this will happen again?
