"...thanks for the review. Not flattering, but dissension is appreciated. Think you missed the point of the book and cd somewhat, but no need to argue. Your protectiveness towards these artists is commendable.

"Wow, some rather pitiful 'responses', seems this needs to be addressed. First off, thanks SO much for your kind words and as well your link. Especially in these times of economic ka-ka it's nice to see people keeping their chin's up and brushing their dog's. As evidenced by your first 'response' these things can certainly cause a 'man' to lose interest in sex, with the inevitable irritable bowel syndrome only a day's walk away. No, your's is a succinct and transcendental beauty, marked by a 'kaleidoscope' of music on offer, tastes not found amongst even ones you care deeply for (or simply spend time with on holidays.) I had an image of flies eating (watery) shit after I read people's reviews of your reviews and it saddens me. Dealing with academic tight-asses is unavoidable, yes, some of them might even be cool a few minutes out of the day, but who REALLY wants to look at their face let alone spend time with their stuffy words? Certainly not us here at FF, nor should you bear the brunt of 'another night spent alone, maybe I'll e-mail that French-guy about how he missed the true-scope of my something-or-other.' Please, keep up the good writing, hug your teddy bear tight and keep your lights off to save energy (it's cooler that way.)

"thank you for reviewing the 2xcd of silent film soundtracks we released- it's too bad the connection to the films at thesync wasn't smooth and didn't line up. the length of the versions is the same as the audio tracks, and we put a lot of work into having the cd's follow the action on screen. in the near future we'll probably release a video dub of caligari, nosferatu, and metropolis on one tape.

send a physical address and we'll send you the new releases. we have an io 7" out, and we'll be releasing two more io 7"s during the summer, an io 12" co-released with beta bodega, and an io/ living stereo 7" co-released with audioelectric. all of these are part of the 'roots lab' series.

by the way, how did you get a copy of the cd's? we're just starting as a label and are trying hard to get distribution.

thanks again- hope to hear from you soon.

peace and love,

"I can understand that references are needed to draw interest to the review and the music alike... I think "Acre Thrills" has as much in common with Beefheart as Tom Waits does...and that difference matters. US Maple do thier own thing and that comparison is annoying because it is far fetched, not too insightful, cliche, and would make Lester Bangs real sad... critically speaking. There is a movement of sorts going on that adheres to a new way/style/ideology...it may be derived from Beefheart and No Wave but these labels just don't wash anymore. It undermines the absolute performance and concept of "Acre Thrills" which is rather unique in the big scheme. I think a fresh and new review that matches the new music being made right now must require a broader vocabulary of references because there is a lot more going on with US Maple than just Beefheart and DNA... someone should take the time to research this further.

"Thanx for the link on your wonderful Desiderata site! I have been a fan for a while, having stumbled across it a while back while trolling the web one nite. Always something interesting in every 'issue'. I have added a link on House of Chadula in turn, and glad to do so. If we can ever be of assistance, let me know.

Thanx again!
