e a r p e a c e : audio reviews

reviewing

foot-note: after the critical-mass emailing i did last issue (mostly to those who had works reviewed), i have begun to receive materials for review.

this brings a change to my feeling about reviewing, cuz when i bought something or it is given to me by one of my friends, i am pretty overtly blunt in my opinions...i mean, i paid for this, i can slam it if i want to.

when i get a cd for free in the mail, i begin to encounter different feelings. i have been catered to, have received a gift, and my opinion may encounter resentment.

actually, they already do (see arab on radar's reaction to my us maple review from last issue).

the point i am wandering around, and did not want to bury a review underneath, is:
my original approach to reviewing was to write these online so that i basically was not boring (to tears? the pants off of?) my friends and associates in r/l (real life). i have been known to be rather opinionated (carlos santana and jimmy page suck each other, by the way), and doing online web zine audio reviews was a good way to purge myself of this need/urge to hold forth.

this way i could just say, here, read it...if you want, or ignore...with very little or no accountability to anyone except my own aesthetic conscience.

now i am feeling some complication and conflict, as in, "what will the guy who was kind enuff to send me this think if i do not give due consideration and do a half-assed job or just do not like it?"

or do i say...
if they can't take a joke...
fuck 'em
